Welcome to Lynn Brenner's Family Finance Blog!
If you have ever read my Newsday 'Family Finance' column, you already know that the questions I address are always genuine, and that they’re often fraught with drama. (Take a look at the Crime section!)
Family finance isn't just about money, investing, taxes, insurance, retirement account rules, and wills.
Family finance is about relationships between parents and children, spouses, lovers, siblings, and friends. In other words, it's about love, jealousy, generosity, and power. That's one reason we find financial issues challenging -- and fun to read about.
Although the 'Family Finance' column has ended -- it ran in Newsday every Sunday from 1990 until 2008 -- I'm still answering questions from readers on this blog.
My current Newsday column -- 'Ask the Expert' -- runs every Saturday. (Unfortunately, Newsday now is only available online to subscribers.)
One caveat: Although I make every effort to ensure the accuracy of the information I post here, I am not in the business of rendering professional advice to individual consumers. I hope this blog will suggest questions and issues to pursue with your own tax, investment, and financial planning advisers.
If you're a regular reader (or think you'd like to become one), you may want to subscribe to Lynn Brenner's Family Finance. When you do, you'll automatically get each new post by email. Just enter your email address in the 'Subscription' box at the top of the column on your right and click on "Subscribe". This service is free, and you can unsubscribe at any time with one click.
If you have a personal finance question, a suggestion about a topic you'd like me to write more about, write to me at [email protected]. I love to hear from readers -- and I try to address each question in the blog, even though I can't respond personally to every email I receive. If you have a comment, please use the 'Comments' section at the bottom of each post.
I will NEVER post your name or email address, and I don't share my mailing list with anyone.
